About
Our Story
Mersea Island certainly has a special place in my heart. I was born on the Island, then moved away with my parents as a child, but fortunately we still had my grandparents on Mersea Island, so we were able to visit most weekends and summers. Our childhood summers were spent on 'Monkey Beach' or crabbing off the jetty and eating ice-creams and, of course, fresh oysters and seafood from The Company Shed.
So I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to purchase a holiday home on Mersea Island, where I am now making more memories with my own children and grandchildren. I am more than happy to rent out our special place for others to experience the delights this traditional fishing village has to offer.
This beautiful Island offers many coastal nature walks all year round. The Cottage has ample parking & is only a 10 min stroll to the beautiful esplanade and dog friendly beach, where you can relax, hire a beach hut or participate in water sports, including paddle boarding and sailing. The walk along the beach from the esplanade to the Jetty is delightful, where children can enjoy crab fishing and boat tours are available.
Seafood restaurants serving the famous Mersea oysters, dog friendly cafes and pub restaurants, delis, take-aways, supermarkets all within walking distance. The Fox Inn pub, a short walk away, has a lovely child friendly beer garden, craft beer and great food, especially the seafood platter!
We are also lucky to have Mersea Island Vineyard and Brewery, where a beer festival is held at Easter and you can buy real ale, wines and even Mersea Island gin?
The Mersea Regatta, which has been running since 1838, is held every August and should not be missed. There is a variety of rowing races, an outboard motor balloon race, swimming race and ‘walking The Greasy Pole’ and ends in a firework display in the evening.
